Take Time for Yourself This Mother's Day

We love our kids and they mean the world to us. We know that raising them isn’t always easy and can be downright exhausting, but we are happy to invest the time and energy into our children. Hopefully this Mother’s Day you get a thank you or two, maybe some lovely handmade gifts or even breakfast in bed from your kids and/or significant other. But regardless of what others may do for you, Mother’s Day is the perfect day for you to do something for yourself, while someone else takes care of the kids. It doesn’t have to be for the whole day, just set aside some time to reconnect with yourself. You work hard and deserve to focus on just you for a while. And if doesn’t work to slip away on Mother's Day because of family plans, you can still choose to take time for yourself on another day.

Here are a few ideas:

Enjoy a good book
Go to a coffee shop, a quiet spot in your backyard, a park or anywhere else you enjoy being that allows you to relax and lose yourself in the story.

Get creative
If you are the type that enjoys painting, drawing or writing, make time on this special day to let that part of you loose and see what happens.

Meet with a friend
Arrange to meet a friend for coffee or a glass of wine and enjoy the adult conversation and company.

Get pampered
Make an appointment to get a pedicure, a manicure, a facial or a massage and enjoy being spoiled for a little while.

Take a bath
Find your favorite scented bath oils or bubble bath, light some candles, put on music and relax in a nice hot tub.

 Exercise
If you enjoy physical activity then go for a run, a walk, a hike, a swim, whatever form of exercise makes you happy—go do it.

Go to a movie by yourself
If you have never done this, it is a wonderful experience that I wish I had been brave enough to do earlier in my life. You can sit where you want, you get the popcorn all to yourself and you get to totally immerse yourself in the movie of your choice, while not having to worry about anyone else.

Regardless of how you spend the time, what matters most is that you take some time for just you. It will not only recharge you, but it will show your kids the importance of taking time for yourself.
